Slate Auto's sub-$30k EV pickup is due next year–here's the factory

I'm so pumped for this launch, it seems like the ideal EV. It doesn't cost a fortune trying and failing to replace an ICE for long trips, good for hauling people and stuff locally, and isn't trying to be the car of the future. The fact that it's an EV is an afterthought, a cheap basic small truck to fit in the same slot as the old Ford Ranger is enough of a value proposition on its own.

I love the concept of this and hope Slate survives, but $27.5k is too expensive for what they're offering. With the Kia Soul at $21.5k and with more features, and the Honda Civic at the same cost, the value proposition isn't there for many people.

Minimialism is great, so long as the price also reflects that.
