Ask HN: Did you get hired through 'Who wants to be hired?' by whoishiring?

11•techsystems•4mo ago
I'm curious how effective it is and if it would be recommended or not.

Is it any different than normal online application process of getting hired?

Yes. I've got a lot of high quality connections that didn't lead to jobs too. One was actually a company I applied for elsewhere, which they ignored because it was a generic job site - the site rejected me, but they continued the process because we were interviewing thanks to HN.

It has the best effort-to-results ratio of anything so far. They'll put you into the process, but I think most have a bias towards you already, so less pointless hoops, and the requirements seem much more reasonable.

Last time someone sent me an email about a job and then asked me for my country and when I responded, they said no.

I mean, why reach out when my country was literally listed in my location in my who wants to be hired comment lol.

Don’t be naive, they are ads for companies, not actual jobs.

I got hired by a company from “who is hiring” list. In general I get more responses and better interviews through jobs on HN. But I send only to the jobs I am truly interested in, not spamming. My applications are individually tailored.
