And yet... Both are equally stupid. Using degrees of shitness to declare your wide the winner just means everyone lost.
WastedCucumber•4mo ago
Nothing in this article the declares one side "the winner" - it seems to be aimed at the government's cynical attempt to vilify "the left".

Quantified data came be used to decide what to prioritize, can't it? Why spend time busting people for jaywalking if speeding causes more deaths and property damage?

How do you know it's equal?

We’ve always had political violence in this country. None of this is surprising.
nailer•4mo ago
I was reading about this earlier, something like 24% of Democrats and 3% of Republicans support violence against people they see as political enemies - I think it was PEW Research but can double check if someone needs.

More anecdotally, the last violent attack against the left was the Melissa Hortman and her husband that were attacked by a Tim Waltz appointee, and I didn't see anyone on the right celebrating it either.

> More anecdotally, the last violent attack against the left was the Melissa Hortman and her husband that were attacked by a Tim Waltz appointee

The accused killer, Vance Luther Boelter, voted for Trump and was strongly against abortion and LGBTQ rights and had a murder target list of Democratic politicians and abortion rights activists and abortion providers. That is the very definition of right-wing extremism. It's highly disingenuous and bordering on perverse misdirection to categorize him merely as "a Tim Walz appointee" as though that's the part that matters and not his actual political views and motives.

> and I didn't see anyone on the right celebrating it

They mostly either didn't care, ignored it, or tried to falsely paint the killer as being politically left like you just did. https://disa.org/dissemination-of-misinformation-by-right-wi...

> However, a 2019 document shows Walz signed off on Boelter's appointment "because of the special trust and confidence I have in your integrity, judgment, and ability."

> Hortman provided the sole Democratic vote in Minnesota's lower chamber to pass a Republican bill that would strip adult undocumented migrants of state-funded healthcare.

> Minnesota State Patrol (MSP) said they had found "No Kings" flyers in the suspect's car, and the "No Kings" protests across the state have been cancelled.

> However, a state report in 2016 listed Boelter's political affiliation as "none or other," and another report in 2020 listed him as having "no party preference," according to the New York Times

That’s literally the first story of the guy you can get on Google. How come you didn’t mention them? Maybe you’re about to tell me the news week is some kind of Republican publication while you accuse me of manipulating information.

He did register as Republican more than two decades ago, but I can’t find any information about the No Kings guy voting for Trump.

sorry, why do you think he wasn’t left-wing?

BugsJustFindMe•4mo ago
> I can’t find any information about the No Kings guy voting for Trump.

Then you aren't looking honestly. Statements on his known political views are everywhere.

> the No Kings guy

Next you'll be saying that his murder hit list of democratic officials and abortion rights advocates is actually a show of support.

> sorry, why do you think he wasn’t left-wing?

Ah, yes, evangelical conservative anti-abortion Trump supporters are of course famously leftist. Come on. Try to be at least a little serious.

From that source:

"Near the scene at Hortman's home, authorities say they found an SUV made to look like those used by law enforcement. Inside they found fliers for a local anti-Trump "No Kings" rally scheduled for Saturday and a notebook with names of other lawmakers."

> > I can’t find any information about the No Kings guy voting for Trump.

It seems pretty clear he's attacking 'traitors' to his cause.

If only there were some way to put together a murder list of leftists and collected information about where groups of leftists were gathering.

> It seems pretty clear he's attacking 'traitors' to his cause.

You're so close. Let's now imagine all the causes that the anti-abortion, anti-LGBTQ-rights Trump supporter might have.
