It truly boggles my mind that Microsoft has thrown away the very thing that made Notepad useful. The feature additions they've added, and continue to add, are more appropriate to Wordpad.
But, at least for now in Win 11, you can still use the older, better version. It's c:\Windows\notepad.exe

It makes perfect sense. The things that made Notepad weren't making it profitable or driving new sales.
Anything that is useful, will acquire lots of users, and then it becomes a target for delivering ads, AI offerings, or whatever snake oil needs to be sold.
