What are effective prompts to learn kernel code?

4•linq936•4mo ago
I have Android 12 AOSP, including its kernel code, downloaded. I like to familiarize the data structures, functioning sequences, etc. on topics such as how kernel messages end up in logcat.

I like to use AI tools such as Claude Code to help me, but I am not sure what are effective prompts. Please let me know if you had similar experiences.

Isn't this greatly going to depend on your own point of view and knowledge?

I'd just start asking ...

burntoutgray•4mo ago
Without reference to your own level of knowledge it is impossible to suggest prompts.

What works for me is to pick an area that looks interesting (to me), paste some code and ask questions. Then you drill down until you sufficiently grok that area, then pick another, etc.
