Ask HN: Remote visual daily planning for people with ASD?

Hey,

I’m in the early stages of exploring what might one day become a new product. Some years ago I built PictoPlan, a simple single-user app for daily visual planning. It had quite a bit of success, but I eventually discontinued it.

The new idea is a system where caregivers, parents, or institutions could centrally (and remotely) create and update daily visual schedules using icons/pictograms. Updates would sync automatically across devices.

The vision: imagine a nursing home or residential institution with tablets in each room. The schedule would visually remind residents to go to the bathroom, take medication, eat breakfast, etc.

I know there’s a single-user need for this type of tool (based on my previous PictoPlan experience), but that market was nearly impossible to monetize. What about multi-user or institutional contexts?

– Do you think such a system could be valuable?

– What pitfalls should I expect?

– Have you seen similar attempts work or fail?

Any feedback or thoughts would be very welcome.

(There’s no product yet — just exploring the idea)

Is "Family" misspelled as "Familiy" in the navigation across the entire site?
viggoblum•4mo ago
Ah dang - thank you so much!! <3

And yes, I use translation files, so it is site wide. :-)

Good deal - I was using voice to text and didn't check it closely when I posted, which is why it seemed like a question, but I'm glad you knew what I meant by my comment!

I clicked around the site & liked the illustrations and idea but didn't actually figure out what I was supposed to do... is the current CTA to sign up for the newsletter?
