Is the current admin applying some kind of pressure tactics to make this happen? Like not necessarily in a bad way, since this kind of censorship is clearly not good. The recent Amazon announcement to end commingling also feels like some soft enforcement action (that practice has been pretty blatantly fraudulent for a very long time).

It wasn’t just free speech absolutists that were against what the Biden administration was censoring; eg they were censoring people questioning the CDC recommendation initially that masks were not effective.
They also banned people who said that it didn’t make sense to shut down schools when children were not affected nearly as much as the elderly.
