Ask HN: How do you share info within podcasts?

2•m-hodges•4mo ago
I frequently find myself wanting to share information surfaced in a podcast, usually a 1 - 3 minute bit from an episode. I'm not naive enough to think friends or random people on the internet will sit through the hour I just sat through, but I don't have a great way of sharing. My current method is to use Overcast,¹ which allows you to clip up to 90 seconds from an episode and export with a deep link to a timestamp. But that also feels clunky. What are other tactics for clipping, or transforming to other mediums (text??) that facilitate better sharing?

"But that also feels clunky." Can you tell me what feels clunky about the Overcast process?

Have you tried Jumper? https://www.jumper.fm/

m-hodges•4mo ago
Thanks, I’ll look into Jumper!

On Overcast: it works, but I find that I spend more time trying to trim the clip than anything else. Probably takes me at least 5 minutes to get the 1-minute clip right. Maybe that’s just a normal and expected amount of effort.

But I think the larger point is it doesn’t surface the information well. I doubt many people ever listen to even the short clip. I’m thinking of a sharable speech-to-text clipper, or something.

CodyBierman77•4mo ago
Gotcha, yeah that make sense. I like Jumper cause it does a good job of curating the best moments from podcasts in clips form for you. But when you create your own clip its kinda the same process as Overcast from what I've seen.
