So now we have Google, X, Meta, Disney, Apple and Paramount paying tribute to the President. We have entered the era of this being a banana republic?
theandrewbailey•4mo ago
Big Media, and now Big Tech, are known tools for the regime, no matter who the regime is. When the regime changes, so do they. Remember when the Biden administration pressured social media to ban specific individuals and suppress certain topics?
throwawaysleep•4mo ago
Hey, if Congress becomes an optional part of taxing large corporations, that may be a price worth paying.

Heck, summon every GOP billionaire and demand they pay a wealth “donation”

scarface_74•4mo ago
But in this case, the money isn’t going to help people.
scarface_74•4mo ago
Did the Biden administration ever ask them to give him money or say if they didn’t pay him directly they wouldn’t approve a business deal?

And you don’t see a slight difference between being concerned about the public health and putting the government on them and threatening to put them out of business because he didn’t like what they said about him personally like Trump tried to do with Disney?

Or not approving a merger until the company paid him directly like Trump did with Paramount?

You'll be glad to know that a great deal of that money goes to Trump, and in particular his new ballroom.

https://archive.ph/3hytw#selection-717.0-717.315

>The vast majority of YouTube’s settlement payment — $22 million — will go to Mr. Trump, according to the filing in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. He has directed that the money be contributed to the Trust for the National Mall and to the construction of a ballroom at the White House.

…isn’t that far better than him just keeping it for himself, which he could have done?
