What is lacking in our culture is an ethos of what I will call "interpersonal generosity", a spirit of accommodation rather fault-finding and the taking of offense. In the absence of such an ethos, spontaneity is destroyed, meaningful exchange is inhibited, and a bland uniformity of the social space ensues.
