Ask HN: What's the Deal with Plastic Guns?

1•phoenixhaber•1h ago
So there are these plastic guns that are lethal within a couple feet and you can ship over state lines. They only cost a couple hundred dollars. What's preventing people from buying several every time they get a paycheck and then mailing them to all the people in the city they live in and dislike? As far as I know it's legal.

Is this a paradox? It feels like a paradox somehow? Paradox. There I said it again. Paradox. Oooh...paradox.

Sorry what would be the point in doing this? You want to spend money on people you hate?
phoenixhaber•1h ago
It would be wonderful no? You find a neighborhood of a bunch of people that you dislike and you give them all guns and let them kill each other. I would do it anonymously and see if I could select people that weren't supposed to have them. Young children, serial killers, that sort of thing. Rich communities of shut ins. You'd get to find out which group of people hate themselves the most. You could set up a sister city organization where everyone picks one other city to ship the guns to. What if there's a city where everyone hates immigrants. Wonderful. What about shipping them to Vatican city or I don't know. Some border town somewhere. I bet you could ship 10,000 guns to Vatican city and see who could take out the pope. What about Washington DC. That would be hilarious. Where else would cause the most possible disruption?
celticninja•1h ago
Ship them wherever you want..pretty useless without ammunition which you aren't going to be able to ship internationally.

there is a pneumatic weapon that uses pressure diff, ejects dense air packet that is lethal at 1~2 yards maybe.
rolph•39m ago
finger traps and finger boxes would be a better prank.

stop50•36m ago
And what hinders them to come into you neighbourhood and start killing you and your neighbours? If you don't like them, there is an chance that the feeling is mutual?

Did you see the Twilight Zone episode "The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street"?

Putin would be very happy with a US that is basically under armed mob rule. He doesn't need to invade, and only has had to buy a few influential people to speed this along.
