Simply, if Israelis unilaterally decide to do whatever they please to Palestinians, who has the physical capability to stop them?

Everyone. Israel is small, has no resources, an economy smaller than the US state of New Jersey, and can be easily isolated geographically. Absolutely any modern military can crush Israel into dust. The challenge is not going to war with the US.

It turns out that being able to trade with the world is fairly important for countries, particularly small countries. Once it lost the economic support of Europe and then the US, the writing was on the wall.

Even if this ends the current genocide in Gaza I don’t see the long term solution here. There should be a two state solution that gives the southern half of Israel to Palestine for a two state solution. That way Gaza and the West Bank become joined geographically and those illegal West Bank settlements fall under Palestinian law.
