Bari Weiss to lead CBS News as part of major Paramount Skydance shakeup

Bari is a super interesting character. A left wing lesbian jew from nyc, whose journalistic ethics forced her to call out the bias at the ny times. HEre's a snippet:

>My own forays into Wrongthink have made me the subject of constant bullying by colleagues who disagree with my views. They have called me a Nazi and a racist;

A jew who is a nazi? But not an isolated incident. As you can imagine other jews like ben shapiro regularly are called a nazi by his political opponents.

So Bari then went on to start her own paper; and is now rewarded with a top dog position at cbs?

Easy prediction that CBS journalism is about to greatly improve.

Bari Weiss is not a journalist and has never authored a news story in her entire career.
hollerith•4mo ago
According to the first paragraph of the wikipedia article on her,

>Bari Weiss is an American journalist. She was an op-ed and book review editor at The Wall Street Journal from 2013 to 2017 and an op-ed staff editor and writer on culture and politics at The New York Times from 2017 to 2020."

She's very much right wing and an open and militant Zionist.

I fucking hate the free press, but in an odd bit of nuance, I actually predict Bari Weiss will be decent on CBS, but I also predict that she won't be able to overcome the move away from broadcast news and television in general.

I would assume that part of the strategy would be heavily digital. It has to be, otherwise, what are we even doing here. But I suppose my datapoint is, and it's an awkward data point but Douglas Murray documentary on "America's Drug Crisis"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cW5tcKngfZc

It's really good. It's objective, it's nuanced, it discusses both sides pretty well, and this all despite the fact that I think that Douglass Murray is a partisan hack wrapped in a very-well read moderate-conservative costume. I think if they can avoid the trap of becoming a right-wing propaganda machine, and attack a large group of issues, I think the nature of TV is such that they might be able to sort gloss over the rough edges of what bugs me about the free press.

That all being said. It's a precarious position. Are they allowed to critisize the Trump administration? Big Tech? I imagine a lot of their bias will be of the "story choice" variety, simply choosing to ignore certain big stories, while perhaps being pretty fair for a certain large swath of stories (outside of maybe Israel)

I do think this is a natural extension of the NYTimes audience, and I think there's a big part of America that wants Bari Weiss' sort of "above the fray" news style (Which I could go into a whole mess of problems with it but I digress)

So in summary, I think there will be the appearance that she is doing a good job, under pressure not to criticize the president and people affiliated with the company she works for, but ultimately won't be able to overcome the death of broadcast news (if I'm wrong, I suspect it's because she converts CBS news into a successful digital product)

As previously reported, Paramount Skydance is expected to acquire the Free Press in a deal valued at around $150 million.

How do you make a small fortune? Start with a large one.
