(At least as much as anybody does. The Peace Prize has a really embarrassing history. And I include Barack Obama in that history, a President I admire very much but who did not deserve a prize for not-being-George-Bush.)
I'm afraid that this seems like a situation where any compromise will leave both sides utterly furious, but at least not killing each other any more. October 7 was beyond horrific; Israel's response has managed to be even more barbaric. (And I say that despite also believing that Hamas is deliberately using its own population as a human shield.) There is no solution that both sides will not consider wildly unjust. And they'll be right.
The US President has no leverage on Hamas, but some on Israel. If he can use that leverage to get Netanyahu to do the unthinkable -- release some absolute monsters -- in exchange for peace, it would be a significant feat.
TFA suggests that Hamas doesn't believe that this is is possible, and is using this as a tactic to prolong the war. That meant it's a real opportunity for the President -- if he can call them on it, and not immediately look like an idiot by having the process fall through anyway. Good luck.
