New MacBook Pro Does Not Include a Charger in the Box in Europe

Freudian acknowledgment that the purchased device is intentionally designed not to serve you for as many years as a random charger these days.
latexr•1h ago
What does that even mean? There are many reasons to criticise Apple (especially under Tim Cook), but this one seems just absurd to complain about. From the article:

> (…) the decision to not include a charger with this particular MacBook Pro was made in anticipation of a European regulation that will require Apple to provide customers with the option to purchase certain devices without a charger in the box (…)

> It is worth noting that the 14-inch MacBook Pro is €100 cheaper in some European countries (…)

I just checked and you can buy either charger with the Mac, and each costs less than 100€. Meaning that overall, in this case Apple is following regulations, reducing unnecessary e-waste, and making the product cheaper.

fuzzfactor•57m ago
You're right, that was pretty vague.

But it's not actually specific about Apple or even corporations.

All it takes in this case is for the key regulator to recognize and admit that a brand new laptop is destined for the landfill sooner than any old charger.

If they can't keep the devices themselves from prompt disposal, at least save the chargers :\

mmaci•1h ago
So you buy a premium charger nowadays, and the laptop _could_ be included
