Heard proposals for this bridge, but never a tunnel.
Kinda a road to nowhere. On the US side there is a decent highway through Canada to the lower 48 but it is a hell of a drive and routes are constrained by crazy topography. In Siberia I think it is the same story.

I notice that they don't propose an "Alaska-Siberia tunnel", nor a "Russia-US tunnel", nor an "Asia-America tunnel". No, it's a "Putin-Trump tunnel". It's about personal egos and putting their names on things, not about usefulness.
Now, in fairness, this wasn't actually Trump's idea, nor his ego that pushed it (so far).
Is there really cargo from easy Asia to North America that makes sense to ship via train rather than boat or plane? I guess if it ends up in a train anyway on one side it might make sense.
A road tunnel would make much less sense.
Of course given current Russian belligerence this make no sense at the moment.
