Ask HN: Why not an anti-dating app for people who don't want to meet anyone?

2•amichail•2h ago
Instead of dating apps that try to convince you to meet people, what about one that does the opposite?

You’d scroll through profiles like on a normal dating app, but instead of showing “potential matches,” it gives you reasons why each person would be terrible for you — things like:

* “He runs marathons at 6 a.m. — you value sleep.”

* “She says her love language is constant texting — your phone is always on silent.”

* “They love extreme pets — you prefer low-stakes goldfish."

You could even earn “Inner Peace Points” for every person you don’t match with.

Basically, an app for people who don’t want to meet anyone and want to feel good about it.

1. Nobody needs an app for this. People who engage in social intercourse are (likely) already rejecting people on a regular enough basis to feel bad about it.

2. The idea sounds really fun to people who enjoy being prejudiced over other people, and literal hell for anyone who is objectified for individual traits they express or possess. You are essentially describing the opposite of why people use dating apps and seek approval from their peers, which is not interesting to the majority of people.

This is an app for people who want to feel good about their social isolation.
bigyabai•2h ago
If you need an app to feel good about your social isolation, then you're not actually socially isolating yourself. You are socializing as a way to alleviate your loneliness.
