Hetzner: The Simple Cloud just got more flexible and more affordable

Every time I look at hetzner, I get stuck in EU only servers.

Also I go there in search of bare metal but get mostly cloud.

Are their cloud servers still better than AWS?

And are they more stable than Linode? Because I’ve had just enough server crashes and reboot with Linode that makes me question using them for anything serious.

smileybarry•3mo ago
They've had cloud servers in the US for a while now (Virginia and Oregon), seems like "Shared Regular Performance" and "Dedicated General Performance" have US servers.
xinayder•3mo ago
I have 2 cloud servers (VPS), running on Ampere (ARM) for almost 2 years now and it's great.

Haven't had any crashes or major outages.

atonse•3mo ago
Yeah my concern is whether they perform better than comparable EC2 servers because EC2 has had notoriously bad performance historically, right?
Hetzner_OL•3mo ago
Hi there, Can you be clearer with what you mean with you "get stuck in EU only servers"? Do you mean that something seems to go technically wrong on our website or user interface Hetzner Console? Or do you get personally distracted? As someone else wrote below, we have Cloud servers on both the US East and West coasts (and Singapore). https://docs.hetzner.com/cloud/general/locations --Katie, Hetzner
atonse•3mo ago
Katie,

What I mean is that as someone who's newer to Hetzner, I'd prefer to just set my desired datacenter location to the US at a session level (just once, stored in a cookie probably), as opposed to having a separate filter on every single list of servers.

For example, even though I've set MY location as US and currency as USD, when I browse the server finder, it's only after browsing a couple pages and not seeing any US servers do I realize that there aren't any servers available in the US at all in the server finder.

Then I click on other lines (like EX), it clearly does say Finland, etc, but I'd rather just go to a US-centric site and only see product lines that are available in the US.

Same with when I click on cloud. Only some types of servers are in the US. But I have to browse and click each one to be able to filter to even see if they're available in the US.

And in my case, it's mostly about latency, I don't really have any legal requirements to host in the US. But I'd still prefer to host in the US and not consider EU servers, so having a per-session way of saying "only show me stuff that's available in the US" would feel less confusing because I wouldn't keep seeing a lot of products that I would never buy.

Think about if I went to BMW's website and they showed cars sold in Europe and the US in the same site. But on each page (say I clicked their 300 series or M series, etc) the list would reset and I would see a bunch of cars not available in the US in addition to the ones in the US. So it would feel confusing to see a bunch of cars I wouldn't buy anyway.

So instead, most car companies have country-centric sites. So going to bmw.com gives me a pop up which lets me redirect to bmwusa.com.

This might be unnecessary in the long term as Hetzner expands their offerings in the US, but right now it feels confusing. So a hetznerusa.com or something only listing stuff available in US datacenters would be helpful.

Hope that helps.

Hi again, Thank you for that explanation. I can see how that could be frustrating, and I will pass on your feedback to the team, though I can't say when and if we can implement something like that. Thank you for taking the time to explain it to me. --Katie
