There was a scene in the Phillip K. Dick novel A Scanner Darkly where the protagonist's friends are having a druggie conversation in a drug house about how "there was some guy who went on TV claiming to be an imposter who had impersonated all sorts of people and then it turned out he was only impersonating an imposter"

The funny bit about it is that the story still holds up to some extent if it’s a lie since the whole thing is about a liar making folks think he’s more credentialed than he really is.

Next you'll say Star wars didn't take place a long long time ago /s It was a fun story / movie even if it's mostly fiction. I'm more concerned about the number of scams / cons that exploded in the last 12 years or so. This seems small potatoes in comparison.

Was a man’s autographical tale of fabulous and unbelievable fabrications itself a fabulous fabrication?
