Ask HN: Teachable/Personalized Companion

1•adrinant•3mo ago
Problem: Current AI Companion (ChatGPT) is powerful, but every chat feels like a reset. It doesn’t remember who you are, what you’ve discussed, or how you think. You can’t build a long-term relationship or continuity with it. It’s great for answers, not for companionship or growth.

Solution: A teachable, personalized companion that learns from past interactions, remembers context, and adapts to you over time. It builds a private memory, so conversations can evolve naturally. You can teach it directly like “remember my sleep routine” or “I prefer concise replies”, and it actually learns.

I’m building the MVP to explore this concept, focusing on persistent memory, personality shaping, and user-controlled data.

Would love your thoughts:

* What kind of memories would make it genuinely useful? * How much control should users have over editing or deleting memories?

Feedback and discussion appreciated!

Hmm, i'd like: - full control on what it remembers - being able to loadup/import stuff into memory, lets say my meetings for next week (with import id so i can delete those too with single click)

For quick rags you can check starrocks, i know its for analytics but ive loaded it up with like 100gbs of data and partial query was still like 0,3s
