Suggestion: Add a 's/^Why //' filter for Titles submitted to HN.

The only story here is that China built a solar installation at this scale. That they chose a good site is a "d'oh, obviously" detail.

Everything this US administration is doing is designed to protect entrenched interests over the short term.

China is doing the opposite.

To see the future, look to China, not the USA.

sleepyguy•3mo ago
>China a quarter-century ago and flooded a vast area for the reservoir of the Three Gorges Dam. This year, China has been installing enough solar panels every three weeks to match the power generation capacity of that dam.

When you can reduce the cost of energy, everything becomes less expensive to make. A company that builds widgets, can choose to make the widgets less expensive. It feels like they are doing a lot of things right to make themselves more competitive and reduce costs further while at the same time more self sufficient. I fear Americans are going to wake up one day and find themselves hopelessly irrelevant. The Trump administration continues to lead the country down a dead end path to enrich themselves and their friends.

locallost•3mo ago
That's especially true if your widget itself produces electricity as solar panels do.
jqpabc123•3mo ago
Bottom line: Everything China is doing is to insure that the USA won't be able to compete in terms of global manufacturing.

So remind me again --- what is the point of our tariff war?
