Elon Musk on AI extinction risk, media bias, and Social Security system

"Within one to two years, we’ll likely have AI systems that are smarter than any individual human at almost any cognitive task. The question is what happens after that." - Elon Musk, October 2025

Hmm... I would be more alarmed if it weren't Musk making the prediction. He has a poor track record on timing. For example, here's what he said about self-driving a decade ago: "From a technology standpoint, Tesla will have a car that can do full autonomy in about three years, maybe a bit sooner." - Elon Musk, October 2015[a]

You just have to account for his sense of time

Thanks for sharing that. It made me chuckle!

Elon, like others, is famous for projection, not in the "prediction" sense but the trait of projecting one's own fears, failures and weaknesses onto others. We all do it to some extent, and I'll argue that one also projects one's own integrity and fullness, in the sense of looking for the best in others and lifting them up, rather than the converse.

As for prediction, Elon obviously lacks focus. I've got a 1920's camera with better focus --- it's fixed!
