Show HN: A hand-held setup guide for Stremio (for non-tech friends and family)

https://www.own-your.stream/
1•anonbuddy•2h ago
I built Own-Your.stream (https://www.own-your.stream/ ) to help people who struggle with Stremio’s setup. Many of us can follow a GitHub readme, but our non-tech friends/family often can’t. They end up DM’ing us for step-by-step help, or give up entirely.

What it is: a concise, jargon-free onboarding flow for Stremio. It walks a non-technical person from zero to a working setup in clear, “do this next” steps (with screenshots and troubleshooting). No fluff, no rabbit holes.

Who it’s for: people who want the benefits of Stremio but aren’t comfortable with forums, Discords, or piecing together guides. If you know someone like that, send them here and we’ll get them over the hump.

What’s inside:

Beginner-friendly guide (written like you’d explain it on a call).

Common-failure checks and fixes (subtitle mismatch, wrong source, etc.).

Optional “concierge” help for folks who prefer real-time guidance.

Clear safety notes and boundaries; no grey-area “tips & tricks.”

Business model: paid guide + optional hands-on help. We disclose any affiliate links. No tracking beyond basic analytics. No email wall to view the overview.

I’d love feedback from HN: what’s unclear, what feels risky, what you’d trim, and what you’d add for the “I just want this to work” crowd. Also open to hearing strong objections—better to fix now than later.
