Just make it a legal and protected profession already , all states and countries are losing out on big tax revenue and its funneling more people into the dark underbelly of society for literally no reason.

We have easy access to porn, raves, onlyfans is essentially a digital version of this, etc and the youth are already sexualized and consumed by their desires -- but when the genitals physically cross that's too much? What a joke.

You want a deterrent, make it legal, have safe buildings and rooms for this service - all parties consent to be recorded and footage deleted in 1 year (in the event of a crime). Safer for the women cause vanilla sex is pointless to record in the age of porn/has no real leverage for the guys who just need to take the edge off and the freaks run a very real risk of capture if they get too aggressive.

nis0s•3mo ago
People who say it should be legalized haven’t thought through the implications of it.
Arnt•2mo ago
It was legalised in Germany about 20 years ago. The proposal to legalise it was very thoughtful and readable, quite unlike your single-sentence assertion.

Two brief examples that I remember: ① Many prostitutes were also witnesses to related crimes, which were difficult to prosecute because the key witnesses would have to admit to their own prostitution. ② The first employer of an ex-prostitute has to teach the ways of normal employment. Some employers will make that effort, but not many. The organisations that help prostitutes find regular employment stated that a criminal record made the search much more difficult.

nis0s•2mo ago
Okay, then please read someone who writes gooder than I do:

Why do you think they’re trying to do the Nordic model now? Hint: it’s not because legalizing sex work proved to be a great solution for their society.

Interesting to note, Germany ranks lower than the US on the happiness index.

Arnt•2mo ago
Much better. However, their thoughtfulness is not a reason for you to be thoughtless. If you want to write that someone "haven’t thought through the implications", then you yourself need to think through the implications.

Not just write a single sentence that implies that some implications exist.

nis0s•2mo ago
You’re operating under old internet rules where we didn’t have open source AI or paid AI to flesh out pros and cons prior to speaking with others.

What stands out to me the most is that the Nordic model proves that reducing sex work improves the economic wellbeing of people, regardless of the legalization of sex work.

nis0s•3mo ago
Good. Sex work degrades the moral fabric of communities by reducing the human body into a decomposable commodity, and at that point you’re not that far off from creating a legal market for kidney selling. People have a romanticized view of sex work because they look at the upper and rarer levels of it, like escorts or doms. If sex work is normalized, there will be the “McDonalds” version of it too, where workers might just have to spend all day being a “glory hole” in a drive-thru of sorts. If people think it’s okay to degrade your body, they think it’s okay to degrade your personhood. I don’t think it’s a good idea for society to create a class of workers that doesn’t have any tangible talent or capability beyond being used by someone else. It’s not the same as mental work, or other physical labor, and you if think so then you either haven’t done sex work, or have only done the “high end” version. Just like everyone can’t qualify for $500K jobs, not everyone will qualify for high end sex work.
throwaway94275•3mo ago
- Any work can be said to reduce the human body/mind to a decomposable commodity.

- Everything you say here about sex work applies to non-sex work.

- The name for "class of workers that doesn't have any tangible talent or capability beyond being used by someone else" is "slave." It's incorrect while this is true: people can voluntarily leave jobs. I don't think anyone is saying sex workers have to take jobs they don't want or be stuck in sex work for the rest of their lives.

Do you think modern workers are slaves? If so, solutions should address all workers and not just sex workers.

Also equating prostitution to kindney selling is incorrect. Prostitutes generally keep all their body parts after providing services.

I think it might benefit you to take a more serious approach to considering the normalization of sex work, rather than as an idealist position. Once you start to break down into an activity someone has to do on a daily basis to get money to do the most mundane things, like paying rent, you come to appreciate just how both lacking and dangerous it is as something to encourage for young people as a viable career option.

If sex work is your hobby, then please go ahead and be free, do whatever you want. If sex work is suggested as means to earn a living, then society can do better. The human brain is not so trivial that its labor should be reduced to something a cow, a goat, or even a monkey can do. I want human flourishing, not human debasement.

I think it might benefit you to take a more serious approach to considering the normalization of mass manufacturing/factory work, rather than as an idealist position. Once you start to break down into an activity someone has to do on a daily basis to get money to do the most mundane things, like paying rent, you come to appreciate just how both lacking and dangerous it is as something to encourage for young people as a viable career option.

If maufacturing is your hobby, then please go ahead and be free, do whatever you want. If 8 to 12 hours of repetitive motions is suggested as means to earn a living, then society can do better. The human brain is not so trivial that its labor should be reduced to something a machine or even a robot can do. I want human flourishing, not human debasement.

bdangubic•2mo ago
I’d rather be f’ed for 8 to 12 hours per day than work in a factory same amount of hours
nis0s•2mo ago
Try literally getting fucked for 8-12 hours for a month, and then get back to me. Let me know how your stds, abortions, and therapy go as well.
bdangubic•2mo ago
ask same questions to factory workers…
nis0s•2mo ago
I’ve seen the videos of factory workers in some non-western nations where people mix caustic chemicals with their hands or feet. That’s still safer work than sex work, where you run the risk of getting a communicable disease, or pregnant. Getting a STD is not the same as getting cancer from bad work environments in a factory because communicable diseases SPREAD. If your daily work requires exposure, then all you’re doing is being a disease vector, and I am guessing your work and pay will decrease as well, even if you’re fucking people who also have STDs. There’s a lot more to say here, but do everyone who you talk to about this a favor, and argue it out with a chatbot before bringing it online.

Let’s talk about getting pregnant now. First, children are not accessories or extension of yourself. They deserve a safe and healthy environment to grow, ideally with two parents to add a counterbalance when one is not someone you can like or trust. Even if sex work is legalized and normalized, you run the risk of creating an unsafe environment for your child if your work follows you home, and begins to stalk and harass you. Too many people have gotten killed, mostly women, because they jilted someone. That’s not even bringing up the fact that someone might want to rear the child with you, and what if that’s not what you want because you’re already in a relationship.

So you get abortions. The human body can take only so much physical trauma from invasive surgical interventions before your immune system starts degrading. Abortions are not an endless solution to getting pregnant, and contraceptions are not 100% child-proof, including vasectomies. Again, lots more to say here but I encourage reading instead. One is more likely to take to an if they find it themselves rather than someone telling them.

I’ll say one final thing about the body though. The holes used for sex, minus the mouth, degrade each time they’re used. If someone is a sex working, they’ll have to factor in the depreciation of that physical material into the cost of their services. That’s not currently done because sex working is relatively rare, and there’s fast turnaround in workers because natural aging is also a factor. Basically, if there’s lots of competition your holes are not that valuable, and they’ll degrade each time they’re used.

Factory work doesn’t give you communicable diseases, or run the risk of pregnancy.

nis0s•2mo ago
Very low effort and pointless comment. Try sex work for a living for a month, where it’s legal, 8 hours a day. Don’t do the glamourous type, but the normal type. I’ll happily do factory work any day.
