Considering that the RoR (Return on Research, how much discovery accumulates per dollar spent) has cratered by over 98% in the last century, we cannot afford sub-par researchers just because they fit our racist and sexist caricatures of who should be in those positions.

Especially now, with so many threats looming over humanity such as climate change and environmental degradation, we desperately need all hands on deck and the best of the best in place, regardless of gender or skin colour. And DEI is how we achieve this.
