As someone old enough to remember OSS, the amount of stockholm syndrome going on here is impressive. The fun times fiddling with 'vmix' to get different applications to play sounds at the same time, yeah, that was awesome. MIDI? USB Audio? Resampling? Jack? There's also this wireless thing, what's it called, redlip or something, but who cares about this modern stuff, I still got my C64 here, it's awesome, everything just works and it boots in a second.

What he describes here is the Windowization of modern (linux) software. There is no need to compile in features that noone uses. Like Wayland support and X11 in the same executable. Or dbus, or polkit or Pulseaudio.

So run Gentoo, like I do. You get flexibility using USE flags to compile which component you want to include in a package.
