I've used many note-taking apps over the years. Nothing comes close to Windows Notepad. As it opens instantly, you spend all of your cognitive load on the note itself rather than the app.

But, the lowly Notepad lacked essential features like markdown and images. The alternatives (Notion, Obsidian, etc.) are either too heavy or too complicated to setup.
