I'd also check in with the gopher folks. They also added bookmarks right around that time. I have no idea which was first. Odds are, they were parallel development as the web was being discussed on gopher when it first released, so there was quite a bit of cross-pollination going on.

I always liked the term ‘hypermedia’. It seemed apt. But now, I suppose the distinction between hypermedia and just ‘media’ has been lost.
