There's no sign that it's AI at all, not that you could tell with something like Nano Banana Pro. They're calling a thing with 4 fingers AI slop when it's a character with 4 fingers, it's a paranoid witch hunt - all about protecting artists until the art style is a little too close to AI or there's some minor flaw that could be construed that way.

Apart from that it's not bad for the environment. The water usage is tiny compared to e.g. alfalfa or almonds, and the energy usage is minuscule compared to running a dryer, air conditioner or car. These people are playing Fortnite on a GPU for hours - an RTX 4070 uses 200W and an A100 250W for a few seconds to generate some prompt.
