I think these kinds of posts would benefit from first person language instead of 'you'/'your' kind of generalizations because they are personal truths, not universal.
bitshiftfaced•2mo ago
Advocates for clear, plain English recommend using the second person and not to shy away from imperatives. [0] It makes it easier to use the active voice as well as use less words. As a reader of this article, I don't take issue because I understand that the author isn't actually commanding me personally to do these things. It's just a sentence structure that conveys the information in a more readable way.

> failing to fall asleep due to the existential dread of having already used up half of my time

Well depending on many factors you may have already used up more than half of your time. Also: the second half is not equivalent to the first, especially regarding your body.

I wonder what life expectancy is when you're already 40. It has to be quite a bit more than the expectancy at birth, especially if you only count richer countries.
andreabergia•2mo ago
Thanks! That's really reassuring and will definitely help my nights! :-D

"There's no comfort in the truth, pain is all you'll find" (George Michael)

(he died at 53 by the way, so his "half-life" was little above 26. You're doing good)

"star wars is overrated"

Star Wars (1977) and Empire strikes back are not overrated - they may not quite be cinematic masterpieces, but are certainly cultural icons. Everything else in the franchise ...

Sure, 'hero saves the galaxy' is fantasy.
