There are organizations in the US like Homegrown National Park, Wild Ones, and dozens of native plant societies that encourage rewilding of urban and suburban areas with plant natives. This is a really important step, too, in saving what's left of wildlife. The commercial focus on non-native grasses and ornamentals is sometimes a disaster for wildlife. Once the ecosystem is out of balance, it's not just a disaster for wildlife, either. Once the predators are gone, it's easy to get infestations of rodents and their diseases, noxious insects out of control, etc. It's not easy to re-wild a place, but the natural beauty of native plants and healthy wildlife, although not without inconvenience, has long term benefits for human livability, and relatively low costs.
