Ask HN: Why we dont we have dark mode on Hacker News yet? this is not funny

bigyabai•2mo ago
Greasemonkey is a free download
hexo•2mo ago
that is NOT funny
bigyabai•2mo ago
You're right, it's an honest and straightforward solution.
hexo•2mo ago
yes, on desktop. its a "fix", not solution. more like a cheap excuse
bigyabai•2mo ago
Not only, it works great on my Pixel 8's Firefox too. Same for sideloading native HN clients.

Everyone who chose to buy a locked-down device is outta luck. Your OEM decides how you get to use the web, not you.

reneberlin•2mo ago
Paint it black. It's just a document from the web and now resides on your computer. Do whatever you like with it! There is no authorian sleepy forcing you to consume it like it was.
hexo•2mo ago
Yes on mobile, sure. What a ridiculous excuse.
breve•2mo ago
Just do it yourself with Greasemonkey:

sails01•2mo ago
Why do you think there must be a dark mode version of HN?
BOOSTERHIDROGEN•2mo ago
Save the earth.
sails01•2mo ago
how does dark mode save the earth?
Bender•2mo ago
This does not answer your question. I do not know the answer. That said these [1] are the uBlock Origin rules I use. This includes some colors that can be changed to fit anyone's preference.

I am using an add-on called "Dark Reader" in firefox.
gumboshoes•2mo ago
I use the third-party app Harmonic to browse HN and it has a dark mode. It's quite nice, actually. Though I do think your tone is unusually inappropriate for a feature request.
gregjor•2mo ago
I suppose it had to come to light eventually. For many years hundreds of people -- from web designers all the way up to the highest Freemasons -- secretly conspired to thwart every attempt to implement dark mode in HN to frustrate you personally. Not funny indeed.
