Joe Lonsdale Calls for Public Hangings

Joe Lonsdale has also been retweeting supremacist extremists like Connor Tomlinson - this guy:

https://www.thenational.scot/news/25673425.gb-news-spewing-r...

I think the entire ecosystem of people connected to Peter Thiel and Lonsdale are radicalizing towards the far right, and I don’t mean this as hyperbole. It’s not just the Palantir crew, but also the All In crew, and all their other VC buddies like Brad Gerstner. Every one of them is giving the current direction power. It’s hard to trust that companies in Lonsdale’s portfolio like Anduril - or these other VC’s portfolios - will be a force for good.

mindslight•2mo ago
Sorry brah. Call me old fashioned, but masculine leadership means standing up to anti-American fascist fucks - not falling over yourself to service them. The main reason these guys have such hardons for draconian punishments is to distract from their own wanton corruption and criminality.
SilverElfin•2mo ago
They could have just called for better enforcement of laws. Instead they want a public spectacle with a process that is intentionally cruel.
mindslight•2mo ago
From what I can surmise, the violence and cruelty is the motivation. The law merely serves as a justification when convenient. I'm not sure if they're trying to justify it to themselves or still have vestiges of needing to justify it to others.

It's too bad they can't all just go to some arena, fight each other, and leave the productive members of society out of their mess. I'm sure the elites pushing this crap could even find champions willing to represent them so they still wouldn't have to put their own skin in the game.

steve1977•2mo ago
I think it’s exactly the power over society that is so attractive to them.
BLKNSLVR•2mo ago
What's funny is that they're so sure of their toxic "masculinity" position they stay silent on it until there's an administration they think is amenable to it.

They feel empowered in their position because someone else provided the umbrella.

It's classically weak, and it's funny they can't see it - that's how far out of tune with reality they are.

steve1977•2mo ago
Let‘s see if he still calls for that when it’s his turn.
UncleMeat•2mo ago
Nah see he only calls for it for "violent crime." Crime by the wealthy, even if it steals more money from people and even kills more people, is a super special kind of crime that doesn't count in the same way.

He is so generous towards the poor, advocating for faster trials and extreme punishment. We've definitely never seen overpolicing lead to any problems there. Nobody has ever got life in prison on a three-strikes law for stealing golf clubs. What the poor definitely do not need is for their bosses to stop engaging in wage theft and for their landlords to stop violating the law. That's not a problem at all.

steve1977•2mo ago
> is a super special kind of crime that doesn't count in the same way.

Under the current regime, yes. Regimes can change. Rules can change.

UncleMeat•2mo ago
I certainly hope for this to happen. My sarcasm is framed as Lonsdale's opinion, where I'm absolutely certain that he doesn't want his friends who steal from people to be hanged. Since they are very special boys.
mrlonglong•2mo ago
These people are sick in the head. I hope at midterms the Americans will oust enough Republicans to stall things until the next election and remove the current administration.
jfengel•2mo ago
Why would they? They elected this administration by a fairly wide margin, and everything it has done is in keeping with its campaign promises. It's been more effective at that than any administration I can think of.

Sure, it's horrifying to the people who voted against it. But I see nothing here to change the minds of people who voted for it.

There will probably be some midterm losses, because the same persistent economic problems are still troubling us, but I don't expect to hear much of "I didn't realize that they were bloodthirsty monsters". I expect more of "Yeah, they're bloodthirsty monsters, which I like, but I won't vote for them anyway because the economy is bad."

rtpg•2mo ago
It’s pretty disgusting how much the SV zeitgeist had spent years talking about liberty from tyranny and less than a year into this admin so many people are totally in line.

This just feels so downstream of “the people I dislike are against this so I will be for it” logic. At least the libertarians had some form of principled reasoning … sometimes.

mindslight•2mo ago
Sadly, this is the inevitable result of so-called "right Libertarianism" at the large scale. With its axiomatic framing, emphasis on individual freedom for yourself, and ignorant rejection of sticky market effects (ie computational complexity), its basically a recipe for power-hungry individuals to justify creating new authoritarian power structures with de facto governmental effects.
