Years ago i became team leader and managed shifts for my team.
I used an excel spreadsheet that some person from accounting made for us. It was incredibly featureful, visually instant (shifts were immediately understandable), it was ridiculously FAST to use. And through the cloud services was available to everybody in the team and outside.
Developing something similar in any other programming language would have taken months and would have yielded a much worse product.
Excel in the hands of somebody that can actually use it is an incredibly powerful tool.
