True title: Trump to make all foreign tourists provide five years of social media history before entering US
chrisjj•1mo ago
Quote:

It will be "mandatory" to hand over the information, and other details - including email addresses and telephone numbers used in the last five years.

Personal details of family members will also be required.

> Personal details of family members will also be required.

This is the more egregious thing in my view. I'm not sure what I'd do if a family member threw me under the bus like that, but I know I'd be absolutely furious for a very long time.

Willingly giving your own information is one thing, but giving someone else's information (in the absence of them providing informed consent) is unforgivable.

fjfaase•1mo ago
That could possibly result in 'empty' soccer stadiums next year, because I fear that many foreign fans will be baned due to some 'critical' comment in social media about USA or Israel. The number of foreign tourists will drop even lower.
magicalhippo•1mo ago
When I last visited the US some years ago, I had to submit a link to my Facebook profile and such. How exactly will this differ? What do they classify as "social media history" and how would I realistically provide 5 years worth of that to them?

Regardless, I had a few more places in the US I had wanted to experience, but I'll easily pass if something like this is in play.

> When I last visited the US some years ago, I had to submit a link to my Facebook profile

What if you had no Facebook profile?

magicalhippo•1mo ago
Only an issue if they find out you actually did. The phrasing only included Facebook as example of profile they wanted. At least when I travelled.

Who knows now...

JohnFen•1mo ago
What do people who have no social media history do?
chrisjj•1mo ago
Likewise, who have no family members.
