Short answer --- with the help of tariffs, they may be able to compete in the USA but they are effectively surrendering most of the rest of the world.

And this only lasts as long as the federal government is willing to keep tariffs in place. If tariffs are dropped for EVs under a future administration to stoke electrification of transportation and more rapid EV uptake, it is over for legacy US auto.
