I wonder to what extent it's a sustainable strategy. I mean, Disney went at that full throttle and what did it get them? That recent Superman movie seemed based on a diagnosis of what was wrong with Marvel movies and was a lot of fun and promises to be first of a new series but it well fall back into the traps.
I was changed forever when I saw a pin-up of Lum printed on a line printer in college, and my interest in anime has only deepened. More and more I see young people and not so young people engaging with anime instead of western culture, my son and I were joking about Solo Leveling but met people who dig it, as well as stuff like Reborn as a vending machine I now wander the dungeon. I did meet people who got excited about Barbie and Superman and I do hear second or third hand that somebody is into Stranger Things but I think people get excited about things that come from the mind of a light novelist or mangaka instead of a star chamber somewhere between Hollywood and Vine and Burbank.
