Ask HN: Allow AI use during job interviews?

3•realclayman•1mo ago
Most of us use AI/LLMs for coding and other job related tasks, but job interviews are still done with pre AI ways/methods.

1. How should job interview process change to adapt this new world?

2. What is the value of asking leet code like questions anymore?

3. How to test if a candidate is good at using AI at work?

4. What else you think is important to think about regarding hiring process in age of AI?

Everyone can vibe code now, but not everyone can read LLM output and see the bugs they generate.

If anything, job interviews should doubly focus on ability to read and understand code without LLM assistance because that’s becoming the new organizational bottleneck.

The same principles apply to a developer regardless of whether or not they’re using AI. If comprehension ability isn’t a top priority, then your risk of hiring a poser skyrockets.
