Ask HN: Why is Hacker News red? Christmas?

13•onesandofgrain•1mo ago

Comments

xenospn•1mo ago
Yes. It happens every year.
orionblastar•1mo ago
12/25 https://diehard.fandom.com/wiki/Nakatomi_Plaza never forget, at Midnight, Hans Gruber falls off the tower. :)
WarOnPrivacy•1mo ago
The Christmas color scheme is a bit off for me. The title bar is too light to read.

I turned off my dark theme and the page became high-contrast chromatic in my browser. It is readable like that, if brutally so.

pohl•1mo ago
and green
dang•1mo ago
Someone should make a compendium of all the "Tell HN: Merry Christmas" and corresponding "Ask HN: Why did the colors change?" threads over the years. It would be fun, and is probably be a good fit for semantic search.
tptacek•1mo ago
Wrong answers only! It's a secret feature of HN, like the black bar, but for when someone has made Dan angry.
dadrian•1mo ago
It's not red! You're just colorblind.
throwaway2046•1mo ago
Black bar?
akerl_•1mo ago
It’s like a grizzly bar, but mostly found on the east coast.
firefax•1mo ago
dan has recently joined the DSA, and redone the color scheme in kind. thank you comrade!
brightmood•1mo ago
Made a request so I can keep using that when Christmas is over. It makes HN usable to me. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46382452
Yash16•1mo ago
The red looks great overall. Changing the text to white might improve contrast and readability. I experimented with red in my app, but it didn’t work visually, so I moved to a snowfall theme.
gethly•1mo ago
it's beyond dumb to change the color to red but keep the text black.
beAbU•1mo ago
I'm pretty sure you have better things to do with your time than complain about a website's colour scheme on Christmas.

Go outside and touch some grass.
