Show HN: A living system of software that grows over time

https://XCTBL.com

I’ve been working on a project called Space.

It’s an experiment in building software that evolves slowly and explains itself over time, rather than optimizing for onboarding, dashboards, or early conversion.

Instead of a feature list, Space is structured as a set of systems you explore. Some are practical, some are experimental, and some exist mainly to be understood. New systems and records are added on a fixed cadence (the 1st and 15th).

The project is live and free to explore. I’m mainly interested in learning whether “slow, observable software” can compound meaningfully over time.

I built Space after noticing that most projects I worked on felt rushed into clarity, features, pricing, positioning - before the system itself had time to settle.

This is an attempt to reverse that. I’m deliberately keeping things small, visible, and evolving in public to see what actually compounds when you let a system breathe. Happy to answer questions or explain any part of it.

One piece of feedback: your website is asking to create an account before giving me any idea of what it is or what I'd get.

You may run into people who are not willing to share their email address without an idea of what they'll get in return.

promptfluid•1mo ago
That’s fair feedback, and I agree.

The current flow is intentionally minimal, but it does front-load the account wall more than it should. A better approach is letting people explore at least one system or environment before asking for an email, so they can decide whether it’s worth engaging further.

I’m treating this as an experiment in how people prefer to encounter complex systems, and this is useful signal. I’ll adjust the entry point so the value is clearer before any signup.

Appreciate you calling it out.
