With the end of 2025, the last remaining commercial support contracts for Itanium-based systems have expired. Launched in 2001 as Intel and HP's joint 64-bit architecture, Itanium was a key rationale for the abandonment of several proprietary RISC designs, including HP's PA-RISC and Compaq (formerly DEC) Alpha. The final iteration of Itanium, 32 nm Kittson, was last shipped in 2021, when Intel ceased fulfilling orders for Itanium CPUs. With the expiration of HPE's Integrity server support on December 31, 2025, the Itanium platform is finally, officially, dead.
