I'll give Amazon this, I think of the major FAANG contingent, they are perhaps second only to Apple as credible stewards of serious, sane, stable long term commitment to their products and ecosystems. Do they pass the don't-be-evil test? Well, not really. But Prime existed for years before they truly figured out what it was and it started taking off, and despite apparently losing money, they made a credible and consistent long term commitment to their Echo speaker ecosystem.

What's interesting here is they seem not to be offering Just Another LLM but a handful of purpose driven ones, like Rufus for shopping questions, auto-generated blurbs comparing a book you're looking at to one you've read on Kindle, and this for "eligible devices". Yes, every day Amazon is closer to becoming Morgan Industries from the game Alpha Centauri, but it's at least refreshingly intentional.
