My Logitech mouse became unusable, Logi Options+ can't validate certificate

12•enescakir•1d ago
Logi Options+ stopped working on macOS.

Because core settings depend on the app, I can't even change mouse acceleration, not just macros or shortcuts. Without the software, the mouse is basically unusable.

If hardware requires software to function, that software failing because of a missed cert renewal is pretty unacceptable.

Tough luck, seems like Apple locked the escape hatch on that and threw away the key: https://www.osnews.com/story/140450/apple-memory-holed-its-b...

Do you recommend any alternatives to Logi Options+? I've heard about BetterMouse, does anyone use it?

I paid for bettermouse and can recommend it. Light and powerful. No bloatware.

Certificates working as designed, to expire.

Either turning your purchase into e-waste, or confirming that your purchase was designed as e-waste to begin with, whether Apple, Logitech, or both.

I've got one of their lesser gaming mice and it was pretty good to begin with. It had the RGB glowing constantly at a default condition whenever there was USB power to the mouse. But only if you installed the Windows Logitech software could you change the RGB to a different pattern or turn it off.

Never really needed their software, used the mouse on various Windows and Linux systems. Then one day a firmware update came automatically while Windows was online.

Now the RGB glows (apparently part of its initialization) only when you first turn on the PC, never to be glowing again unless you are using Windows and have the Logitech software running.

Does it support OpenRGB? https://openrgb.org/devices.html

I ditched Logi Options+ and use SteerMouse instead. I wouldn't call myself a mouse power-user, but it's been good enough for me.

LinearMouse seems like a good temporary alternative for basic button actions. But doesn't support gestures.

Logitech is known for amazingly terrible software. I wonder how all their software department isn’t fired yet

I've been using https://macmousefix.com.
