I started building this in late 2024 after getting frustrated with existing NVR options. Most are either bloated enterprise software or don't handle protocols like GB28181 well.

Owl is written in Go and supports:

- GB28181 (2022/2016/2011) - widely used in Asia - ONVIF device discovery - RTSP/RTMP streams - YOLO-based object detection

The goal is a lightweight, self-hosted camera platform that runs on anything from a Pi to a NAS.

Next up: HomeKit integration and recording.
