Not to disagree with some of the sentiment, crawl and pagerank still feel like innately useful concepts.

If we mourn google search stopping being functional let's pause to mourn alexa and wais too.

I'm continuing to hope at least some of the ferment about fully European dependency chains arriving at a European search function. Yes, we can argue about snooping and how evil commerce is OK when government isn't, and we can argue about the consequences of a less English language dominated rank space. I still think there's merit in search, operated outside of google, and the US.

I mainly mourn that google didn't get federated and dismembered to compete amongst itself. The utility of their monrepo, but distinct flavours with regionalism and therefore redundancy, and no arc of control through the black chamber.
