One of the biggest German news portals report up to 12.000

https://www.t-online.de/nachrichten/ausland/internationale-p...

Bender•3w ago
Adding that there will be upwards of another 10,000 executed on Wednesday per the Iranian government. They are already lining streets with body bags of people to discourage anyone else from protesting but I suspect that will only increase the protesting.
hermanzegerman•3w ago
I hope the protestors liberate them before these assholes kill them.
Bender•3w ago
The protestors are the ones being executed. They are being taken into a large metal corral of sorts and one can hear the AK-47. The plan for Wednesday was to hang a bunch of them. Iran has strict control over firearms so most of their citizens are mostly soft targets since they do not appear to have enough combined combat knowledge to take the guns from the police.

We are basically just waiting on Donald Trump to uphold his promise he would do something but thus far that has just been sanctions.

Bender•3w ago
Hangings aborted. Now they are just mass killing all protestors. [1] This may indeed be a TACO.

solumunus•3w ago
They’ve recently gained a huge ally in the USA, so that should help offset the losses.
Waterluvian•3w ago
The USA is notoriously unreliable these days. I wouldn’t count on them for much.
GaggiX•3w ago
For a comparison Iran reported "200 killed" in the Mahsa Amini protests.
gus_massa•3w ago
More context https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahsa_Amini_protests

> ... associated with the death in police custody of Mahsa Amini began on 16 September 2022 and carried on into 2023, but by spring 2023, the protests had largely subsided ...

> At least 551 people had been killed as of 15 September 2023, according to Iran Human Rights, including women and at least 68 minors.

lordleft•3w ago
If you need to murder thousands of people to legitimate your regime, your regime ain't legitimate.
jifow•3w ago
Speaking as someone who knows people on both sides:

It's going to be very hard to convince most iranians that this is anything other than Israel/USA backed terrorism. Especially with Israel and the US openly bragging about backing it.

It doesn't help that they're probably mostly right. And looking at the genocide in gaza and how many of the people backing the protest are basically holocaust deniers, it looks really horrible to much of the islamic world.

logankeenan•3w ago
> how many of the people backing the protest are basically holocaust deniers

I don’t understand this? My assumption is that hardliners in Iran would be holocaust deniers and not want the regime to fall?

thomassmith65•3w ago
This take is more credible: https://nitter.net/websterkaroon/status/2010266520111423520#...
throwaway37426•3w ago
For anyone who’s reading this, I speak Persian. If you translate the Iranian state media propaganda, it’s basically the same. That should tell you everything you need to know about the credibility of such comments.
stevehawk•3w ago
To quote the current US administration - One of ours, All of yours
d3vnull•3w ago
That's terrible...
ghusto•3w ago
I was hopeful they'd get there this time, but that's it, this one's over.

12,000 killed, more to be executed. Then you have Trump saying they're ready to make a deal.

A deal with the USA is the nail in the coffin.

xenospn•3w ago
I don’t think the IRGC is going anywhere anytime soon. Would love to be proven wrong.
ukblewis•3w ago
honestly wtf is the reason that this is flagged? Hacker News mods don’t like seeing stories about dead Iranians?
_DeadFred_•3w ago
The pro-Gaza people really don't want to talk about Hamas/Hezbollah's ideologically aligned financers mass murdering civilians. They flag, they concern troll or use other means to hijack the top comment to redirect discussion. It's wild, I haven't seen such a blatant political operation on Hacker News before.
