The Hypocrisy over Iran

Quite opinionated to one side, but not wrong on the question of comparing the outcries.

I know those who have double standards will try and find differences, but to anyone who really cares about the killing of innocent people there is no difference.

In related comparisons:

Trump Clarifies Stance on Civilians Being Shot by Military: “Minnesota OK, Iran Not OK”

this, and the post you submitted, are still lightning fodder for unresolvable entrenched arguments and run counter to the HN guidelines.

There is a big difference. Hundreds of Iranian police and military have been killed. Peaceful protest is a very different thing than armed riots. Even if you support the overthrow of the theocratic dictatorship in Iran, it's hard to say that they're any more brutal than any other country based on the facts, and they are considerably less brutal than the Israeli state.

You've posted this quip twice in two days, and at least one other time a few months ago. Most of the activity we can see in your comment feed over recent months is in the category of political/ideological battle, not curious conversation, which means you participation on HN is at odds with the guidelines and the site's purpose.

We understand that these politics-related topics are inherently activating of strong emotions (indeed, survival-related fears), and so we've been willing to cut everyone a little slack in these discussions in the past year or two. But there is a limit to how much blatant disregard for the guidelines we can tolerate before we have to ban accounts.

You're as welcome as anyone else to participate here and express your views, but we need to see you, like everyone, showing a sincere intention to follow the guidelines. These ones in particular are relevant to your recent posting history:

Be kind. Don't be snarky. Converse curiously; don't cross-examine. Edit out swipes.

Comments should get more thoughtful and substantive, not less, as a topic gets more divisive.

Eschew flamebait. Avoid generic tangents. Omit internet tropes.

Please don't use Hacker News for political or ideological battle. It tramples curiosity.

Iran is already a pariah state, I don't know what you expect. They are sanctioned by the UN, marked as a terrorist organization, the US droned their 2nd in command... There's nothing to do except write editorials about hypocrisy or start a new middle eastern war. Wake me up when the west is funding the revolutionary guard with 10s of billions of dollars of military aid a year.
dismalaf•3w ago
Russia and Iran literally fund Hamas and a bunch of the Islamo-leftist causes in the west...

It's not hypocrisy, it's that Russian/Iranian money and propaganda are the direct cause.

Notice also the outcry over Maduro, another Russian ally.
