Ask HN: How can we combat fascism?

8•indisposable•3w ago
Like many of you I am horrified by the events in Minneapolis and the generally aggressive turn of the US government against its own people. I worry constantly about my family, my colleagues, and our collective future as united people.

We're engineers, product builders, and very deep technological thinkers with startup mindsets geared toward building fast and moving the world forward. Beyond protests and voting, we have actual skills that we can apply to solve this problem- if we only knew how. How can WE uniquely help?

[Not interested in debating politics with the HN crowd, just looking for ways to contribute. And let's keep HN out of trouble and consider legal suggestions only... thx :) ]

Join the DSA. Don't engage w/ Conservatives. That's about it.

I’m not sure but I’m also interested. If you’re outside the US join your national military reserve, build and use domestic or open source software, maybe run for office and enact policies that reduce reliance on the US. If you’re a central banker, maybe don’t buy US debt. Teach your friends about infosec (this is good anyway). Don’t use an OS that spies on you. Buy less fossil fuels (or none at all). Get to know your neighbours and see who knows what so you have a community support network and can give mutual aid.

> Like many of you I am horrified by the events in Minneapolis ...

You mean like leftists, led by an ex-CNN host, storming into a church in Minneapolis and preventing service from taking place?

I'm horrified by that too.

I assume OP meant Renee Good who was shot in the face and murdered.
