I was in college at the time of Yahoo turning down the opportunity to buy Google for $1M. I clearly recall my Computer Science class groaning at the news. If Yahoo had bought them, we’d probably be using Ask Jeeves phones and Altavista smoke detectors though.

Watching Google go from a useful search engine, pulling in lots of interesting resources, to the garbage it became is quite sad really. Facebook is another wasted opportunity. The organic growth and evolution of the online world was culled and siloed by fucking ad salesmen and government surveillance.
