ClickUp acquires Codegen, forces users into ClickUp to keep using it

ClickUp acquired Codegen and immediately required Codegen users to sign up for ClickUp just to keep using it.

At the same time, they’re deprecating Slack and Linear integrations — the exact pieces that made Codegen useful for agent orchestration across tools.

It’s forced lock-in.

Instead of building a best-in-class AI agent orchestration platform that wins on merit, they’re closing the ecosystem and breaking workflows to funnel users into ClickUp. That’s incredibly anti-competitive behavior.

This is a classic "acquire and lock-in" strategy. We've seen it many times - big company acquires a popular tool, then forces users into their ecosystem.

The worst part is killing the integrations. That's exactly what made the tool valuable in the first place.

As someone building AI tools, this is a reminder: always have export options and avoid vendor lock-in. Your users will thank you.
